Luddington Marine was established by Dr Lou Luddington in 2006. I have extensive experience of diving and shore surveys as well as remote sampling from boats. The following gives an idea of experience in scientific diving and marine surveys and monitoring:
From 1995-2000 I carried out a PhD in marine biology at the School of Ocean Sciences, University of Wales, Bangor which involved diving and snorkeling field studies in Lough Hyne MNR, Ireland and Mauritius, Indian Ocean. From 2002-2006, I was employed by CCW as Assistant Marine Conservation Officer at Skomer MNR. Duties included sublittoral species monitoring, boat driving, seal monitoring, littoral surveys, benthic grab sampling, data analysis and report writing, as well as liaison and public relations. 2006- present, as Luddington Marine I participated in diving and shore surveys as a sub-contractor to Marine Seen,ASML, CALM and Marine Bio-images. Local work has included survey and monitoring of sublittoral maerl and sea grass habitat at South Hook LNG, Milford Haven for CCW and management of a collaborative project with Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and TYF Adventure to monitor recreation in North Pembrokeshire.
I am also involved in marine environmental education and have provided training on behalf of the Pembrokeshire Outdoor Charter and Pembrokeshire Marine Code groups. This involves taking local activity providers and their staff out on the shore and in the sea and teaching them about the marine environment they work amongst. The idea of the training is to enthuse local activity providers about the wonderful marine and coastal environment in Pembrokeshire and in doing so encourage them to run their activities in a way that is sensitive to it.
I have also given lectures/talks on behalf of the Outdoor Charter and to local interest groups such as the Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales.
By increasing awareness and appreciation of the marine environment I aim to influence people’s attitude to marine conservation and the way we interact with the amazing planet that sustains us!
